Since 2004, Philadelphia Stories has cultivated a community of writers, artists, and readers in the Greater Philadelphia Area through publication, annual contests, networking events, and affordable educational programs. Title: Nonfiction Editor – OPEN

Location: Remote
Status: Part-time, up to 10-25 hours per month, 1-year minimum commitment

Job Description
Philadelphia Stories is looking for a volunteer Nonfiction Editor to manage the nonfiction board and submissions for the quarterly magazine.

Responsibilities

  • Manage nonfiction board, including the timely review of all submissions.
  • Coordinate the review of all submissions.
  • Make final selections of nonfiction for the magazine.
  • Work in collaboration with the fiction and poetry editors for the selection of submissions for the quarterly magazine.
  • Report to Editorial Director.
  • Meet all deadlines.
  • Serve as an ambassador for Philadelphia Stories.
  • Promote the opportunity to submit nonfiction work to the magazine, especially to nonfiction writers who represent under-represented voices.

Qualifications

  • Experience reviewing and critiquing nonfiction.
  • Superior editing skills—detail oriented
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Positive, friendly, upbeat attitude
  • Must have a computer and internet access
  • Familiarity with Submittable a plus
  • Driven and motivated to learn

Title: Director of Communications – POSITION FILLED

Location: Remote

Job Description
Philadelphia Stories is looking for a part-time communications manager to provide oversight of social media managers, newsletter editors, and web designers. The communications manager will also provide direct support to the Executive Director, lead communications planning and messaging, and advise staff on best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead communications team
  • Write and edit marketing copy, pitches, weekly newsletters, media kits, and press releases
  • Oversee social media strategy and implementation
  • Update WordPress site
  • Gather and manage photo and video for promotion and events
  • Capture photo and video during events
  • Provide administrative support
  • Research media outlets and reporters; build contact lists; pitch stories

Qualifications

  • Studying or degree in public relations, communications, marketing, English, or multimedia
  • Superior writing and editing skills—detail oriented
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Must have a computer and internet access
  • Some web and graphic design experience a plus
  • Experience with Google, Constant Contact, WordPress a plus
  • Photography and video skills a plus

Job Description
Philadelphia Stories is looking for part-time communications assistants to develop promotional strategies and content to support the Philadelphia-area writing community and Philadelphia Stories events and contests through our social media channels and newsletter.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and create social media assets, including: developing appropriate messaging, graphics, videos, and memes
  • Research relevant content to share across channels
  • Plan, schedule, and organize posts on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram
  • Provide administrative support, as needed
  • Study social media trends and implement in a strategic plan
  • Report to the Director of Communications.

Qualifications

  • Studying or degree in public relations, communications, marketing, English, or multimedia
  • Graphic design skills a plus
  • Social media management
